Recertification Appointment- What To Expect

1. Brief medical history review

The healthcare provider will review your medical history and ask any clarifying questions if needed. This is not a stressful discussion, so don’t worry.

If the practitioner cannot certify you (ex. active pregnancy, history of cannabis-induced psychosis or cannabis-induced allergy), you will be refunded in full.

2. Recertification

The provider will then log into the PA Medical Marijuana Program website, look up your patient account in the online certification system, and complete and submit your certification with you on the phone. (If your appointment is with our NP, your certification will be submitted by the supervising physician after your appointment.)

During this process, the provider will answer any questions that you might have.

3. Confirmation

After the provider submits your certification electronically, the Dept of Health - PA Medical Marijuana Program will send you a confirmation email. (Sender: “PA Medical Marijuana Program” with the word “Incident” in the subject line.)

You don’t need to do anything with that email. It is just for your reference.

4. After certification

If you have already logged into your patient account on the PA Medical Marijuana Program website and paid your annual card fee to the State for this year, then you are done!

If not, you’ll need pay the Dept of Health your annual card fee whenever it is due. (The PA Medical Marijuana Program sends you an email each year letting you know when your annual card fee is due.)

5. Get your new card in the mail within about two weeks

You can keep using your current ID card until it expires. The “Issued date” (start date) on the new ID card that will be sent to you will be the day after your current card’s expiration date. Example - If your current ID card expires on 06/01/2025, then your new ID card will become valid/active on 06/02/2025.

*If your most recent ID card has expired already, then the “Issued date” on your new ID card will be post-dated about a week from the date of your recertification appointment. The Dept of Health does this to allow for mailing time. (i.e. If they instead activated the card immediately, then you would lose two weeks of that active time while the card is being mailed to you.)

We make the process as easy and as streamlined as possible.
